Well, if you're fortunate-enough to catch the talented keyboard and vocal-skills of (our) 'Swami' at a Kootz-show... You-too, will experience a little 'divine-intervention', akin to a 'rock 'n roll-religious-experience'! Judge for yourself...
Paul Simeone was born in Englewood, New Jersey in 1953 and spent his youth in the Hackensack River-Valley-Hamlet of Fairview. As he began his musical-voyage, he drew early-influences from such notable-artists as The Young Rascals, The Beatles and many of the Motown-stable of acts.
As his budding-talent emerged, Paul delved-into songwriting as well... and took his cue from many of the 'prog-rock' acts of the day, drawing heavy-influence from the likes of Jethro Tull, Yes and Emerson, Lake and Palmer. Concurrently, in a parallel-musical-universe, 'Swam' could also be found playing the tenor-drum for the Fairview 'Roughriders' marching-band, where he put-in a two-and-a-half year tenure! He became quite adept on the rock 'n roll drum-kit around this time, as well.
As the 70s 'blossomed', so did this young-lad's musical adventures. Paul started-out in the Jersey rock 'n roll 'scene' with a 'top-40'-outfit known as 'Uncle Remus', which was later-followed-by stints with other groups; First; 'Snow' and later 'Parry Sound'.
The first 'serious' original-music-outfit that Mr. Simeone teamed-up with, was 'Thorin Oak'; With 4 other musicians, including (then) soon-to-be brother-in-law... and current 'fellow'-Kootz-guitar-man, Al Egizi, Thorin Oak met with HUGE-success in the mid-thru-late-70s around the New Jersey 'club-circuit' and later morphed-into the band 'Taxi'. Taxi recorded an album, comprised-mostly of Swam's-tunes and got it released in Europe on the Decca label! Taxi still performs a couple of 'reunion'-shows each year, with the original-lineup intact!
Paul has also racked up some terrific 'sideman'-credits accompanying major acts as well, sharing the stage with the likes of Southside Johnny Lyon, Eddie Brigati (of his childhood-fave 'Rascals'), as well-as The Coasters and The Brooklyn Bridge. He also maintains a busy-schedule backing several local New Jersey groups as well.
By day, Paul has been educating the 'youth of America'... or at least those who attend Ridgefield Park, NJ High School, for many-years, as a musical-instructor. He's happily married and resides in Bergen County, NJ.
'The Kootz' are proud... and 'blessed' to have an 'audience' with Paul 'Swami' Simeone! Come-on out and 'believe'! THIS 'Swami' IS the 'Rock 'n Roll' 'Authority'!
